The hospital operates with three (3) operating theatres, i.e Main theatre, Obstetric theatre and orthopeadic theatre.
MAIN THEATRE
The main theatre is where all surgeries except gynecological and orthopedic cases are done. We usually attend to cases like: TURP, Prostate Biopsy, Urethral dilation, Orchidectomy, SPC insertion, Excision, Urethroscopy, Optic Urethroscopy, Nephrectomy, Open Prostatectomy and all Urology cases including Endoscopic surgeries, Oophorectomy, Myomectomy, Hydrocelectomy, Splenectomy, Cystoscopy, Hysterectomy, Salpingo – Oophorectomy, Laparotomy, Ovarian Cyst, all kinds of Hernias, all forms of Lacerations (ranging from minor to Major lacerations) and Circumcision (ranging from children to adults)
The theatre has 3 anesthetics, 11 nurses and it runs 24 hours every day.
OBSTETRIC THEATRE
The Obstetric theatre is a theatre that perform surgeries for all gynecological cases. Some of these cases are: Caesarian section, Salpingectomy, Oophorectomy, Evacuation of the Uterus, Myomectomy, Total abdominal Hysterectomy, Bilateral Tubal Ligation, Secondary suturing, Cervical laceration repair, vagina laceration repair, manual removal of placenta, Speculum Examination, removal of cervical Polyps, Shrodkar’ssuture, Excision Biopsy, Dilation and Curettage
The theatre runs 24 hours every day.

Our laboratory is equipped with the most advanced analyzers and technology available in order to be able to meet our patients' needs. We provide a whole array of laboratory services, with both accuracy and speed which are vital in the clinical setting. This leads to generation of reliable results upon which so many treatment decisions are based.
The laboratory is operated by experienced and licensed Medical Laboratory Scientists who are full members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) and American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC).
The turnaround time of investigations depend on the complexity of tests. However, most routine test reports are ready same day.

The Hospital Pharmacy is a department or service centre in the hospital responsible for the supply of medications to both in-patients and out-patients
The department is headed by a qualified pharmacist and supported by eight (8) Pharmacy
Technologist and four(4) Pharmacy assistants
The Pharmacist directly supervises and ensures the correct dispensing, compounding and distribution of medication to both in and out-patientsGOALS OF THE PHARMACY DEPARTMENT
• To provide quality pharmaceutical care and services to patients
• To assure a high quality of professional practice that conforms with ethical, professional standards and legal requirement
• To ensure the availability at all times of adequate supply of safe, effective and good quality drugs in appropriate dosage forms consistent with the needs of the patients and to rationalize drug utilization in collaboration with medical staff
• To promote research in hospital pharmacy practices and in the pharmaceutical science in general
• To disseminate pharmaceutical knowledge by providing for interchange of information among pharmacy staff and with other health professional
PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES COMPONENTS OF THE HOSPITAL PHARMACY
• The formulation of hospital formulary, procurement, dispensing and control of all pharmaceuticals used within the facility
• The evaluation and dissemination of comprehensive information about medicines and their use to other health professional and patients
• The monitoring, evaluation and assurance of the quality of medicines use
DRUGS PROCUREMENT, DISTRIBUTION AND CONTROL
The pharmacy department is responsible for the procurement and dispensing, distribution and control of all medicines used within the hospital
This responsibility extends to drugs and related services provided to both in and out-patients Policies and procedures governing these functions are developed by the department with input from other involved hospital staff and committees
DRUG INFORMATION
The pharmacy is responsible for providing health professionals and patients with accurate and comprehensive information about drugs and their use and serves as the centre for drug information
RATIONAL USE OF MEDICINES
The pharmacy department is responsible for assuring rational use of medicines
In this regard, the pharmacy staff, in concert with the medical staff develops policies and procedures for assuring quality of drug therapy
RESEARCH
The Pharmacy Department conducts, participate in, and support pharmaceutical and medical research appropriate to the goals and objectives of the pharmacy department and the hospital as a whole
The Radiography department runs various kinds of scans.
Some of the scans the department does are:
• convectional X- ray,
• Ultrasounds,
• Obstetric scans,
• Gynecological scans,
• abdomen scans and small parts scan.
We have a modern digital X-ray equipment which makes it faster and easier and a modern Mondray DC- 3 Ultrasound equipment.
The unit has two staff, one radiographer and one assistant. The unit works from 8 am – 3pm every weekday. We are always available outside working/ opening hours when patients report at the accident and emergency center.
Currently, the unit runs the following projects/ programs:
MATERNAL NUTRITION AND PRESERVATION OF LOW BIRTH WEIGHT
• Pregnant women with low HB level; either mild or severe anemia are referred to the nutrition unit for counseling
• Education on diet management is done at the ANC; what pregnant woman eats has an influence on fetal development.
NUTRITION EDUCATION AND HEALTH PROMOTION
• Health education is done at the OPD every Monday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
• We also visit the special clinics for health talks on dietary management.
• Counseling on nutrition is done daily at the unit
• Health talk also takes place at the children’s ward twice a week immediately after sharing their breakfast.
COMMUNITY BASED MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE MALNUTRITION (CMAM)
• Malnourished children who are identified during home visits and child welfare clinics are referred to the unit for counseling.
INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING (IYCF)
• At the child welfare clinic, we emphasis on exclusive breastfeeding and the appropriate time for complementary feeding.
• Various types of infant feeds are also taught at the CWC.
• Displaced children are also fed with infant formulas (NAN-1 for the first six months, followed by NAN-2 and NAN-3)
NUTRITION ASSESSMENT, COUNSELLING AND SUPPORT (NACS)
• Nutrition assessment is done at special clinics and counselling using anthropometric measurement (BMI- Body Mass Index and MUAC-mid upper arm circumference) to determine moderately and severely malnourished clients.
• Education is done during each clinic day; malnourished clients are supported with blended fortified foods
NUTRIENT DEFICIENT MANAGEMENT
• Infant feeds prepared at the unit are well balanced diet.
• The use of combined minerals and vitamins (CMVs) to correct micro-nutrient deficiencies.
OUTREACH/ HOME VISIT
• The unit does visit clients in their homes to monitor growth and good nutrition.
SCHOOL HEALTH ACTIVITIES
• The unit is part of the team for school health activities. It takes place every Thursday from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm. The nutrition officer interacts with food vendors in the schools, kitchen staff and also discuss with pupils on personal hygiene, placing emphasis on hand washing.
• We also do head-to-toe physical examination and if there are any referrals, the pupils are directed to the appropriate units at the hospital.
The unit runs from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm weekdays.
The unit currently has three staff (Cook, Nutrition Officer, and Technical Officer)

About Us
The Methodist Hospital was established in 1951 by the Chiefs and people of Wenchi. It started as a dressing station in a small room at the current location of the Police Station. It was transferred to its present site, also in 1951, when a single block of the local Methodist Middle School was released.
